The first decades of the 1900's were dominates by true giants, such as Alekhine, Capablanca, Lasker. But there were not only World Champions making the chess scene so incredibly lively during those years. In today's installment of 'Ronen's Greatest Hits' GM Har-Zvi pays tribute to one of the greatest American players of all time: Frank James Marshall. Marshal was born in 1887 in New York City. By age 13, he was one of the leading players in Montreal, where e lived from age 8 to 19. In 1907 he played for the World Championship title against Emanuel Lasker, losing it. Marshall was US Champion from 1909 to 1936. The great American player left us some games that are considered as milestones. showing his legendary prowess at openings and his amazing ability at rescuing positions apparently lost. As Marshall himself said 'the hardest thing in chess is to win a won game'. In 1915 Marshall opened the Marshall Chess Club in New York City, that still is one of the most important an renowned chess clubs in the States.
