Upset avoided by Wrong Turn and a Gibraltar Assaulter
Opening: B48, D20: Sicilian: Taimanov variation, QGA
Player(s): Eljanov, Iljiushenok, Edouard, Javakhishvili
Super GM Pavel Eljanov of Ukraine risked the beating in the first round of the European Individual Chess Championship, currently being played in Jerusalem, Israel. His much lower rated opponent missed the winning chance and, later on in the game a chance to draw it, with the poor King moving to the wrong side. An interesting overturning in this first game Larry shows us in today's episode. The second game is from the recently concluded Gibraltar Tournament, and sees French GM Romain Edouard play the 15-year-old Georgian rising star IM (WGM) Lela Javakhshvili. The French played a great attacking game, and the young Georgian IM with the unpronounceable surname had to give up.
